Senator Roberto Prats, was born in Santurce, Puerto Rico in 1966. His parents are career public
servants--his mother has been a secretary in a government agency since 1981 and his father
retired from the Puerto Rico Telephone Company. Thus public service is a family tradition for the
Prats family.
In 1984, he graduated from the Medardo Carrazo High School in Trujillo Alto and with limited
financial resources pursued his university studies in the United States. With the help of various
scholarships, in 1990 he graduated from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York majoring in Public
Policy Analysis and Economics. He earned his Juris Doctor degree at InterAmerican University
and also studied International and Environmental Law at Georgetown University in
Washington, D.C.
Roberto Prats. was voted Senator-at-Large during the elections of 2000, becoming the youngest
candidate elected to the Puerto Rico Senate. He served as the Popular Democratic Party's
Auxiliary Secretary for Federal Affairs & International Relations. The principle themes of his
campaign focused on water resources, municipalization and protection of natural resources. |
