As his name suggests, there has been nothing calm and passive about the picturesque life
of "Hurricane" Harry Illingworth.
His adult life began with his enlistment in the military during World War II where he was
awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star for service in Germany. After the war he
earned his degree from Syracuse University’s School of Management. Between rounds of
golf, he founded Town & Country Properties, Inc. in his hometown of Rochester, N.Y.
During this period he built a house in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands and 22 years ago
decided to move to the island permanently. Today he is retired from the car rental
business and devotes his creative energies to a life-long passion, jazz.
He has been the host of Jazz Quest in St. Thomas for twelve years and has been heard on
WOSO for the past four years. In addition to his radio programs, he is the music critic for
the on-line newspaper, The Source, and writes for other publications. The "Hurricane"
blows through jazz festivals and conventions all over the world throughout the year. |
